Emma Borden was the younger sister of Lizzie Borden, who was infamously accused and acquitted of the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. Although Emma was not directly involved in the crime, she played a significant role in the case and its aftermath.
Emma Borden was born on 19th July, 1850, in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States of America, to Andrew and Sarah Borden. She was the youngest of four children, with two older sisters and a brother. Emma’s family was well-respected in the community and was considered to be part of the local elite.

The Murder and Trial
In 1892, Emma was living with her sister Lizzie and her father and stepmother in their home on Second Street in Fall River. On the morning of August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were found brutally murdered in their home. Lizzie was immediately suspected of the crime and was arrested and charged with the murders.
During the trial, Emma testified on behalf of her sister, stating that she was with Lizzie at the time of the murders and that Lizzie was innocent. Despite this, Lizzie was found guilty by the grand jury and was later acquitted after a highly publicized trial.
After the trial, Emma and Lizzie inherited a large sum of money from their father’s estate. However, the two sisters had a strained relationship and did not speak to each other for many years. In 1906, Emma moved to New Hampshire, where she lived the rest of her life in relative solitude.

Emma lived a lonely life away from people in Merrimack, New Hampshire’s Newmarket, United States of America. On June 1st, 1927, her sister, Lizzy passed away in Fall River from pneumonia. Emma also had an accident and shattered her hip the very day Lizzie passed away.
On June 10, 1927, she passed away from chronic nephritis after only 9 days. At the family plot in Fall River’s “Oak Grove Cemetery,” the Borden sisters are interred next to the rest of the family.
