Rich Henning, a small-business owner in LeClaire, says it’s “the most festive event of the Quad Cities at Christmastime.” The event got under way with Master Carvers creating wooden shoes and decorations. Ron Leiby, of Bettendorf, is a former LeClaire resident. “Without this it would be kind of boring this time of year,” he said. “I can’t say enough about it. I love it here.

FA to launch an investigation into a clash between assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and the Liverpool full-back. The assistant referee who apparently elbowed Liverpool’s Andy Robertson at half-time during their Premier League draw with Arsenal will not be appointed for future matches until an investigation is complete, the referees body says. Robertson was seen remonstrating with the official, Constantine Hatzidakis, at half-time of Sunday’s game, and video replays appeared to show the official brushing off the Scotland international and catching him with his elbow.
